Memories. Traces. Temperatures. What kind of temperature did I belong to in your memories? Can you feel the temperature of my palms through those expressed or unsaid consideration for you? Will the slowly accumulated traces of consideration keep pace with those dissolving ones? Does the curve of memories rise towards higher temperatures or decline towards lower degrees?

The basic device of our work “Intouch” is a wooden box with four sections, each of which stands for a communication link with a friend. The movement of pressing links means our expression of consideration for our friends, who can also show their care for us through the same movement. When we press one of the links, a button located underneath will be touched at the same time. As the link is pressed above 5 times, its color will gradually turn into red while the corresponding link on our friend’s device will become warmer and warmer. If we stop pressing the link for more than 10 minutes, its color will slowly turn into blue while the temperature of the link on our friend’s device will decline. There are five categories of colors for each link, including red, pale red, white, light blue, and blue, corresponding to five degrees of temperatures, including hot, warm, normal, cool, and cold.

Our team intends to reveal the frequency of personal interactions through the variations in colors and temperatures. In addition to observing the extent of consideration we show for others through the visual variations in colors, we can also feel the temperature of consideration passed from others when our fingers press and touch the links. Sometimes the link may appear in warm tones of colors and with a warm touch, while at other times in cold tones of colors but with a warm touch, or reversely. The concord and discord between visual colors and tangible temperatures suggest degrees of correspondence between ourselves and others.
